A romance with a bit of murder mystery lite thrown in. Joe is Mormon and conflicted about his sexual orientation which is not condoned by his faith. Kabe is a felon on parole. These are real people dealing with real issues and a shared love of the outdoors and rock climbing. A LOT of climbing jargon but I rather liked it. I loved the communion between their sport and the setting they do it in (why did I get hints of Hillerman?).
The murder mystery falls into place pretty quickly and easily but that's ok, this is really about Kabe and Joe's developing relationship and how Joe comes to terms with his religious roots. More to come in the sequel, looking forward to it.
